Mr Ian Smith is a BAPRAS certified Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeon at The Duchy Hospital in Harrogate. He offers specialist care across cosmetic surgery, reconstructive surgery and the management of complex skin conditions.

Mr Smith has a particular expertise in skin cancer surgery, complex reconstruction following cancer treatment, sarcoma surgery, and head and neck reconstruction. At the Duchy Hospital he offers a range of aesthetic and minor surgical procedures, including upper eyelid correction (blepharoplasty), scar revision, mole and lesion removal, cyst and lipoma removal, and split earlobe repair.

With over 20 years’ experience as a consultant plastic surgeon, Mr Smith is recognised as one of Yorkshire’s leading specialists in plastic and reconstructive surgery. He combines extensive surgical expertise with a patient-focused approach.

He is certified in surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures through the Royal College of Surgeons of England’s Cosmetic Surgery Certification Scheme, reflecting his commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and ethical cosmetic practice.

Having completed his specialist plastic surgery training in Leeds and the Yorkshire region, Mr Smith further developed his expertise through two prestigious fellowships in Australia. He spent a year at the internationally renowned Australian Craniofacial Unit in Adelaide, followed by a further year at the Royal Brisbane Hospital in Queensland. These fellowships provided advanced experience in complex facial reconstruction, head and neck surgery, and the management of challenging skin cancers.

Alongside his private practice, Mr Smith holds senior clinical and educational leadership roles within the NHS and the wider specialty. He is Lead Clinician for Plastic Surgery and Lead Clinician for Sarcoma at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. He is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Leeds.

Mr Smith is actively involved in advancing standards within plastic surgery nationally. He serves as Chair of the Board of Examiners for the FRCS (Plast) examination, helping to assess and train the next generation of consultant plastic surgeons, and is Honorary Treasurer of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS), the professional body representing UK plastic surgeons.

Mr Smith has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, and has presented extensively at British, European and international plastic surgery conferences, sharing advances in reconstructive surgery, oncology and craniofacial surgery.
