Dr Jamal is Consultant physician in Supportive Care Medicine at the Peace Hospice and Central London Community Healthcare trust. She was lead Clinician in Enhanced Supportive Care and Palliative Medicine at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre UK from 2004-2019.   From 2005 to 2016 she was the clinical lead for Palliative Medicine at Harefield Hospital, Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust.

She qualified with MBBS from Dow Medical College, Karachi, Pakistan. She did the Diploma in Endocrinology in 1987. She obtained a scholarship for a research project in 1988 in Endocrinology at the Hammersmith Hospital and was awarded a PhD by the University of London in 1992. She completed her specialist medical training and was appointed Consultant in Palliative Medicine at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust in 2005.

Her specialist interests are early involvement of supportive and palliative care, symptom control in advanced disease, cancer pain, non-cancer palliative and end of life care pathway development, management of co-morbid conditions in cancer patients.

She has a particular interest in developing Palliative care services in Pakistan.

She has published on symptom control and end of life care in cancer and non-cancer and has presented at international conferences including European association for Palliative care and the Shaukat Khanum Cancer Conference Pakistan.
