About Dr Horng Kai Tan

Personal Profile

Dr Tan holds a public appointment at Royal United Hospital Bath, where he has been Consultant for Diabetes, Endocrinology, and General Internal Medicine since 2017.

After graduating from the University of Southampton with his Bachelor of Medicine in 2006, he trained as a Junior Doctor in the Southwest. Dr Tan subsequently completed his MD in 2018, with a focus on improving control of hypoglycaemia with insulin pumps, and glucose sensors. As such, he is able to provide unique insight into the use of technology in the management of diabetes.

Dr Tan brings a breadth of experience in treating endocrine disorders in adult patients, including those affecting the thyroid, adrenal, and pituitary. His particular expertise is the management of hypoglycaemia, through close monitoring, and use of devices, such as pumps, glucose sensors (Libre, DexCom or Medtronic), and closed loop systems. Dr Tan also has a special interest in obesity, leading the Weight Management Service at Royal United Hospital Bath.

Outside of his Consultancy work, Dr Tan is actively involved in the training of Junior Doctors, having been an Examiner for the Royal College of Physicians since 2018.

Dr Tan is committed to providing up-to-date and patient-centred care to residents of Bath and North East Somerset, and surrounding localities. With a young family in Bath, he looks forward to deepening his associations with the area, and delivering quality care to patients in years to come.'
