Mr Henry Bourke

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

About Mr Henry Bourke

Personal Profile

Mr Bourke is a consultant surgeon dedicated to the treatment of knee problems only and is a specialist in knee replacement surgery. He is a third-generation doctor following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. He is a UK-trained surgeon having qualified in 2002 from Imperial College in London.  He went on to train as an orthopaedic specialist in the South West Thames region before developing an interest solely in surgery around the knee. In 2011/12 he travelled to Australia to work in two world-renowned sports surgery units, the North Sydney Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre in Sydney and the Park Clinic in Melbourne before returning home to become a consultant in the UK. Mr Bourke has been a full-time consultant with Frimley Health (Heatherwood & Wexham Park Hospitals) NHS Foundation Trust since 2013.

His special interest is in arthroscopic (key-hole) surgery of the knee treating ligament and cartilage injuries or damage with the latest techniques available.  He routinely performs an anatomical ACL reconstruction to achieve a stable knee after surgery that has closest to normal movements. He also has an interest in new treatments for osteoarthritis and performs partial and total knee replacement with advanced pain control techniques and enhanced recovery programmes - including robotic-assisted partial and total knee replacement surgery.

Mr Bourke can see and consult on children of all ages. Whilst most young children can be managed without surgery, when it is required, he undertakes this at The Princess Margaret Hospital for children aged 3 and above.
