Dr Hemantha Chandrasekara is a highly experienced Consultant Endocrinologist and Diabetologist with over 20 years of clinical experience in the diagnosis and management of diabetes, endocrine disorders, and complex metabolic conditions. He currently holds a substantive Consultant post in Endocrinology and Diabetes at North Manchester General Hospital.
Dr Chandrasekara completed specialist postgraduate training in Endocrinology, Diabetes and General Internal Medicine across leading UK centres. He provides personalised, evidence-based care for adults, combining specialist expertise with a compassionate, patient-centred approach to achieve clear diagnoses, effective treatment plans, and long-term health improvement.

Dr Chandrasekara also has extensive experience managing all forms of diabetes, including Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes, diabetes technology and insulin pump therapy, complex glycaemic management, and diabetes-related complications.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Chandrasekara has held senior NHS leadership roles, including Clinical Director for General and Specialist Medicine. He has led service transformation initiatives focused on improving patient outcomes, expanding specialist services, and developing innovative outpatient care pathways.
Committed to education and professional development, Dr Chandrasekara is an accredited Educational and Clinical Supervisor, Academic Advisor at the University of Manchester, and PACES Examiner for the Royal College of Physicians. He actively contributes to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and has a particular interest in communication skills and clinical excellence.
His academic interests include diabetes, endocrinology, obesity, and healthcare innovation. He has contributed to peer-reviewed publications, presented at national and international meetings, and participated as principal investigator and sub-investigator in multiple clinical research studies.
