About Hasina Aktar

Personal Profile

Miss Hasina Aktar is a trained and qualified Dietitian from Kings College London where she gained a BSc Honours in Nutrition and Dietetics and a State Registration (HCPC registered) following her successful training at the Bart’s Health NHS Trust.

Hasina provides tailored dietetic advice for various conditions such as oncology and colorectal surgical patients, requiring nutrition support in the form of oral, enteral or parental nutrition. Hasina will assess these patients and identify their symptoms and how this impacts their nutritional intake i.e. xerostomia, dysguesia. Hasina will then devise a nutritional plan to maximise their nutritional intake to ensure nutritional optimisation which is crucial during cancer treatment and ensuring successful completion of treatment.

Hasina regularly reviews renal and cardiac patients and advises on renal diets such as low potassium or low phosphate diets and heart health- primary and secondary prevention.

Hasina has also offered dietary advice for gastroenterology patients including diverticulitis (high fibre diets), low fibre diet or exclusive Modulen diets for Crohn’s patients and Low FodMaps diet for IBS patients. Hasina will regularly see Coeliac patients to advise on gluten free diets which is the only treatment for this autoimmune condition.

Hasina will see patients who may suffer from nutritional deficiencies such as low iron, B12 and Vitamin D and she is able to provide menu plans to ensure the diet maximises on these micronutrients to ensure healthy living. Hasina will often be requested to review patients who have allergies and intolerances such as dairy free, egg free or soya free diets.

Hasina can provide health education workshops and one to one sessions for patients with diabetes and weight management.

Extensive experience and collaborative approach

Hasina has significant experience in working in ITU- assessing patients who require enteral and parenteral nutrition support. She maintains effective relationships with the Consultants, Nurses, Physiotherapists and Speech Therapists at Circle Health Group and works well in a multi-disciplinary team (MDT). Hasina has continued to review and assess patients including international patients. Hasina is bilingual which has been particularly useful with international patients.

Community involvement

Hasina has also been actively involved in the community taking part in regular Healthy Lifestyle Shows as part of primary preventative measures advising the public on how to achieve a healthy lifestyle through healthy eating education. Hasina has also completed a successful pilot project working for Nutrition and Wellbeing Ltd Company on Healthy Eating for Secondary Schools, as part of her private practice.

Hasina also supports Circle Health Group during any health promotion events including the recent Circle Health Group’s ‘Big health pledge’ where she was able to provide expert dietetic knowledge on healthy eating and its importance to minimise risk of disease.
