About Mr Hari Kaneshayogan

Personal Profile

Mr Kaneshayogan studied medicine at the University of Bristol. He undertook his ophthalmology specialist training in the South West Peninsula. He completed his glaucoma higher speciality training in London at St. Thomas’ Hospital, Westminster, gaining experience in managing advanced glaucoma using the most up-to-date medical, laser and surgical treatments.

Mr Kaneshayogan has a research interest in glaucoma and cataract surgery and has published his work in peer reviewed journals and has presented at local and international meetings.

He is the current subspeciality lead for glaucoma at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospital NHST Trust. He is involved in clinical and surgical training of junior ophthalmologists.

Clinical Interests

Mr Kaneshayogan specialises in general ophthalmology, cataract and glaucoma.

Mr Kaneshayogan has had specialist training in the full array of glaucoma surgical procedures and has also introduced minimally invasive bleb forming surgery such as the Preserflo microshunt to West Hertfordshire Hospital.

He regularly performs standard and complex cataract surgery using a wide range of intraocular lenses, tailored for each patient’s individual need. His cataract complication rate is significantly lower than the national average despite the high complexity of cases he handles.

Mr Kaneshayogan is a strong advocate for “drop-free” glaucoma care using the latest, laser and surgical treatments as much as possible to reduce localised and systemic side-effects of glaucoma medication.

He is proficient in minimally invasive glaucoma trabecular meshwork bypass implants such as iStent and Hydrus which are very good treatments for reducing the number of drop treatments needed for glaucoma, and to help slow down progression of glaucoma.
