I am fully versed in diagnosing and treating common rheumatological conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, inflammatory back pain, gout. I am also experienced in managing patients with rarer conditions such as SLE, connective tissue disease, vasculitis, giant cell arteritis and other rare autoimmune disorders.
Being dual trained, I also work as an Acute Medical consultant in the medical assessment unit as part of my weekly schedule. I manage a variety of conditions in this role including diagnosing and providing immediate treatment for life-threatening illnesses such as sepsis, infections or conditions affecting any of the major organ systems (respiratory, cardiac, renal, gastroenterology and hepatology).
I am uniquely advantaged in being able to provide care from both a specialist rheumatological and acute medical perspective, allowing me to offer my patients the best possible care. I have delivered improved clinical care and patient experience as part of my role as a consultant. I recently introduced a pathway for a sight threatening condition called giant cell arteritis which has led to faster diagnosis and improved outcomes for patients.
I am also an investigator and recruiter for patients to the national British Society of Rheumatology Early Inflammatory arthritis audit, the aim of which is to improve diagnostic delay and start early treatment for these patients.
I have published in several medical journals. I take a particular interest in presentations of rare diseases and have published case reports to improve medical understanding and treatments for such patients. As a trainee in rheumatology, I have led and published research on the effects of environmental pollution in vasculitis. I also take a particular interest in teaching, delivering regular sessions for medical students, trainee physicians, trainee rheumatologists and allied health care professionals.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family. I remain physically active and play sports such as cricket, badminton and squash regularly. I also enjoy travelling and am multi-lingual being fluent in Urdu and Hindi.
