Trained in general surgery in Glasgow and in neurosurgery and spinal surgery in London at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, St Bartholomew's and the Royal London Hospitals and Charing Cross Hospital. International fellowships in spinal and cranial neurosurgery in Philadelphia, Toronto, France and Australia.

Neurosurgery research at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and St Bartholomew's Hospitals. Awarded several travelling fellowships and the prestige Cutler surgery prize. Active research with over 60 publications including articles, editorials, abstracts and book chapters.
