A consultant psychiatrist in Birmingham, Dr Guirish Radja focuses his practice on conditions such as mood disorders, anxiety, memory problems and trauma. He qualified from Imperial College School of Medicine in London, Dr Radja also holds a Masters degree, with distinction in Clinical Neuropsychiatry from the University of Birmingham. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
Through assessment and investigation, Dr Radja’s focus is to reach the correct diagnosis for his patient, as this dictates the proper course and type of treatment. An initial consultation with Dr Radja, lasting approximately one hour, involves a complete assessment of the mental state, memory functions (as required), blood tests and neuroimaging such as CT/MRI/SPECT scans. For the convenience of his patients, all tests are conducted at the same hospital as the consultation, with minimal waiting times for the tests, dependent, of course, on the medical issues involved.
Specifically, Dr Radja is experienced in the assessment and management of the psychiatric consequences of neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s disease. He has specialist expertise in treating conditions affecting the elderly using both psychotropic drugs and psychological interventions such as cognitive behaviour therapy.
In general, treatment would involve a holistic approach using both medications and psychological treatments as appropriate. Dr Radja is experienced in Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR), psychotherapy that treats and assists in the healing from symptoms and emotional distress resulting from traumatic life experiences. He works with a team of experienced psychotherapists to treat a wide range of psychological problems in a holistic way.
With research interests including the treatment of limbic encephalitis, Dr Radja has been published in peer-reviewed international journals including Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry and The Journal of Neuropsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences
Dr Radja works within the NHS as a consultant psychiatrist in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. He holds positions in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. He is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at Keele University Medical School. He is a Training Program Director at the Health Education West Midlands (deanery) School of Psychiatry. He is an examiner for the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Private consultations are available at BMI The Priory Hospital in Birmingham. He is recognized by most insurers as an approved specialist.
