Training and Appointment
Dr Wilson graduated in Medicine from the University of Glasgow in 1988. After working as a junior doctor in the UK in the 1990s, he spent a total of 4 years in Australia, working firstly in General Medicine and then latterly at advanced trainee level in Radiation and Medical Oncology in Sydney. He returned to the United Kingdom in 1997 and completed Specialist Training in Medical Oncology at St James’s University Hospital in Leeds in 2000. He was appointed to his current post of Consultant Medical Oncologist at The Christie Hospital, Manchester in 2002.
Current Practice
He is a key member of the Breast and Colorectal Cancer Groups at The Christie, is closely involved in the Breast and Colorectal Cancer Research Programmes and is the Principal Investigator in a number of national and international trials at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. He also has a special interest in Selective Internal Radiation Therapy for liver tumours (SIRT) and plays a leading role in the development of this at The Christie. Dr Wilson’s areas of special expertise are breast cancer, colorectal cancer and carcinoma of unknown primary source. He has been consulting and supervising cancer treatments for patients at The Alexandra Hospital since 2002, and is available for consultation at the Richmond Oncology Centre.
Achievements
Dr Wilson is an Educational Supervisor within the junior doctor programme and is a lecturer in the undergraduate and post-graduate teaching programmes through The University of Manchester and The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.
