He qualified from Glasgow University in 2008 and went on to complete his Dermatology specialist registrar training in the West of Scotland. Following this he underwent a clinical fellowship specialising in skin cancer and skin surgery, including Mohs micrographic surgery. Here he gained extensive experience in removing facial tumours.
Dr Parkins was appointed a Consultant based at both Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and West Glasgow Ambulatory Care Hospital in 2017. He consults on all general dermatology conditions including eczema, psoriasis, acne, and treating both benign and malignant skin lesions.
Dr Parkins leads the Mohs micrographic Surgery service for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, but also provides this service to patients in surrounding health boards. Mohs surgery is a specialised technique where a microscope is used at the time of surgery to ensure skin cancer removal without having to wait days for results. In addition, this process allows a degree of tissue preservation thereby reducing the cosmetic impact of surgery.
He is currently Chair of the West Glasgow skin cancer multidisciplinary meeting and a member of the west of Scotland managed cancer network. He is a member of the Scottish Dermatological Society (SDS), the British Association of Dermatologist (BAD), and the British Society of Dermatological Surgeons.
Dr Parkins sees patients with the following insurers: AXA, Aviva, Healix, WPA and Vitality. Dr Parkins sees patients from aged 16 and above.
