Dr Lipkin trained at Leeds General Infirmary, St Bartholomew's Hospital, London and University Hospital Birmingham.
Dr. Lipkin has specialised in renal medicine for well over 20 years and has been clinical Director of Renal Medicine at University Hospital of Birmingham Foundation NHS Trust (UHBFT). He Chairs the British Renal Association Clinical Affairs Committee and leads the Regional Transplant Network.
His special clinical interest is in renal transplantation with a focus on live donor renal transplantation. From the medical perspective he has overseen the development of Live Donor Kidney transplant program at UHBFT to a very high quality level. His research was in the area of transplant immunosuppression and has published widely in this area. At present he is working with the UK Department of Health in a project to improve outcomes of Young Adults following transplantation and transfer from Children’s environment. Dr Lipkin leads through the International society of Nephrology, the twinning of UHBFT with a developing centre in Africa.
He has a wealth of experience in managing assessment of potential live kidney donors, as well as recipients, including their short and long term post operative management. He speaks regularly at National Meetings on aspects of Renal Transplantation.
