Mr Sivakumar's medical training was in India (Visakhapatnam) and he qualified as a doctor in January 1996.

Following on from this, his general surgery training was in Nottingham, which he completed in 2002. Further neurosurgical training was completed in Nottingham in 2010, before Mr Sivakumar completed a Functional Neurosurgery fellowship in Liverpool in 2011. In 2013, he then completed a fellowship in Paediatric Neurosurgery in London.
