Mr Giovanni Mariscalco is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon in the Cardiac Surgery Department at Glenfield Hospital, part of University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, United Kingdom. He serves as Head of Service and Lead Clinician for Complex Aortic Surgery, and is also an Honorary Consultant Adult Congenital Heart Surgeon.
Mr Mariscalco graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Insubria, Italy, in 2001. He completed a clinical fellowship in cardiac surgery at the Cardiothoracic Division of the Heart Centre, Umeå University Hospital, Sweden, in 2004. He was awarded a PhD in cardiac surgery by Umeå University in 2008 and subsequently a second PhD in Surgery and Biotechnology from the University of Insubria in 2011. He has authored or co-authored more than 300 peer-reviewed scientific publications and has contributed extensively to the international cardiovascular literature. He serves on the editorial boards of several leading medical journals and has acted as a peer reviewer for*more than 50 scientific journals. He currently holds the academic title of Honorary Associate Professor of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Leicester.

Clinical Interests
He is the lead consultant cardiac surgeon for complex aortic surgery. His clinical expertise encompasses aortic valve repair and replacement, complex thoracic aortic surgery, and advanced surgery of the aortic root, arch and descending thoracic aorta, including contemporary hybrid and minimally invasive techniques.
