Dr Gilbert Andrews is a highly experienced Consultant Psychiatrist specialising in the assessment and treatment of all forms of major mental illness in adults aged 18 and over. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and holds a Diploma in Psychological Medicine, reflecting his long-standing commitment to excellence in psychiatric practice.
Dr Andrews has over 20 years’ experience working as a Consultant Psychiatrist within the NHS, during which time he developed extensive expertise in the management of complex and severe mental health conditions. In addition to his clinical work, he has held senior leadership roles, including serving as Medical Director for an NHS Trust. He was also Medical Director at the Priory Hospital, Woking, and subsequently acted as Responsible Officer for an independent hospital, giving him a strong background in clinical governance, patient safety, and quality assurance.
Dr Andrews takes a calm, compassionate, and patient-centred approach to care. His philosophy is focused on helping patients to understand their mental health condition and equipping them with the knowledge and practical skills needed to manage their illness effectively and lead a full and meaningful life. He recognises that mental illness affects each individual differently and tailors treatment plans to reflect each patient’s unique needs, strengths, and personal circumstances. Dr Andrews has extensive experience in the assessment and management of mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic illnesses, and stress-related conditions.
He adopts a holistic approach to psychiatric care, integrating medical and psychological perspectives. Dr Andrews uses interactive therapeutic approaches alongside medication where appropriate, including mindfulness-based strategies, cognitive behavioural techniques, and anxiety management interventions. He follows NICE guidelines to ensure all treatments are evidence-based, safe, and aligned with best clinical practice. He works closely with a range of psychologists and therapists to provide access to wider therapeutic options, ensuring a coordinated and multidisciplinary approach to care.
Clear communication and shared decision-making are central to Dr Andrews’ clinical practice. He takes time to explain diagnoses, treatment options, and expected outcomes in a clear and supportive manner, enabling patients to make informed decisions about their care. Where appropriate, and with patient consent, he works collaboratively with families, carers, and other professionals to support recovery and continuity of care.
In addition to his clinical psychiatry work, Dr Andrews provides medico legal reports including capacity assessment for the courts. He also makes mental capacity assessment. Fees depend on the nature of the solicitor’s instruction, and the amount of time it takes to formulate the report.
Dr Andrews is currently engaged in private practice based in Surrey and Berkshire and is proud to provide high-quality, professional psychiatric care within Circle Health Group.
