Mr Georgios Kontorinis

Having completed his training in Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery, as well as his research MD degree in active middle ear implantation, at the University Department of Otolaryngology of Hanover Medical School in Germany, Georgios completed a Fellowship in Paediatric Otolaryngology at the Hospital for Sick Children in Sheffield, as well as an advanced Fellowship in complex Otology, Skull Base Surgery and Auditory Implantation in Manchester Teaching Hospitals. He also obtained an MSc degree in Medical Education from Karolinska University, Sweden.

Since April 2013, Mr Kontorinis has been working as a Consultant ENT and Skull Base Surgeon based at the Queen Elizabeth University and the New Victoria Hospitals. In 2019 he was appointed Honorary Clinical Associate Professor by the Medical School, University of Glasgow, actively involved with research, medical education and training of the next generation of ENT Surgeons. He is a supervisor for medical students in their ENT block at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and also one of the Research Leads for ENT across the city.

With his main clinical and research interests in Otology and Neurotology, Georgios has built an international profile; he has been an invited speaker in national and international meetings (over 150 presentations) and has published widely in leading international peer-review journals (over 75 papers) on hearing loss, vertigo and balance disorders, vestibular schwannomas and further otology/neurotology related aspects. He is involved in the Editorial Board of leading international journals in ENT Surgery and has organised meetings and courses in his scientific field.

In March 2022 Mr Kontorinis was awarded a prestigious prize for his Research in Otology by the Royal Society of Medicine. He is currently serving as a SIGN Council member representing the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow (2021-2024) and has also been a council member for the Otology section of the Royal Society of Medicine for 7 years (2015-2022).

Along with general ENT conditions such as deviated septum, nasal polyps, chronic sinusitis, impaired nasal breathing, recurrent tonsillitis and general throat symptoms, Georgios treats a wide range of conditions related to hearing loss, middle ear conditions requiring surgery (tympanoplasty and reconstruction of the ossicular chain), dizziness and imbalance, offering up-to-date and advanced treatment methods targeting the patients’ symptoms.

Georgios has been established as an endpoint for such referrals from across the country given his clinical and scientific expertise as well as his dedication in providing state-of-the-art healthcare.
