Mr Fred Schreuder qualified from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1991. He completed his internship in the UK, where he also undertook most of his specialist training.
Between 1996 and 2003, Mr Schreuder trained in Plastic Surgery in London, Liverpool and Swansea. He then completed a year-long Hand Surgery Fellowship at the prestigious Sydney Hospital Hand Unit in Australia.
In 2004, Mr Schreuder was appointed as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon in Hertfordshire, specialising in Hand Surgery. He worked there for 17 years across both the NHS and private sectors before relocating with his family to Swansea following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mr Schreuder is now a Consultant Plastic Surgeon with Swansea Bay University Health Board, working predominantly at Singleton Hospital. His NHS practice covers emergency and elective Hand Surgery, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancers. He also leads the Hywel Dda Skin Cancer Multidisciplinary Team and spends two days a week at Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli.
Mr Schreuder has worked in private practice since 2004 and has provided private care in South Wales since 2022. His practice at Werndale Hospital reflects his NHS work, with particular expertise in common hand conditions including carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, Dupuytren’s disease, hand arthritis and ganglions.
He also has extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of skin lesions, including skin cancers, and their reconstruction using techniques such as skin grafts and skin flaps.
Outside of medicine, Mr Schreuder enjoys outdoor pursuits, including running and bodyboarding, and has a particular passion for gardening. He also writes and paints, having published a novel for young adults. He enjoys travelling and exploring new places, particularly those with an interest in art and history.
