Personal Profile

Mr Fady Sedra is an orthopaedic and trauma surgeon with special interest in spinal surgery. He graduated from Cairo University ranking 9th in his class and later completed his basic orthopaedic training at Cairo University in Egypt and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore. Mr Sedra has been awarded the doctorate degree in research in the field of scoliosis surgery; he also finished two prestigious fellowships at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and The Royal London Hospital.

Mr Sedra practices spine surgery at a consultant level at the Royal London Hospital, and has a private practice at The London Independent Hospital. He manages complex spine trauma cases including craniocervical, cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. Mr Sedra has special interest in spinal deformity surgery both in adult and paediatric age groups. He operates on kyphosis, scoliosis and spondylolisthesis and also treats lumbar and cervical disc disease in the adult patients. Mr Mr Sedra offers a comprehensive service including conservative measures of treatment, spinal injections and surgery, should all other means of treatment fail.

Mr Sedra utilises computer navigation and advanced robotic solutions to perform complex procedures and secure the best outcomes for his patients. He also performs his surgery employing minimally invasive techniques.

Mr Sedra has contributed to the development of the spinal deformity service at the Royal London Hospital. He is also the governance lead of the spinal services at Barts Health and North East and Essex spine network. Mr Sedra is well known to listen carefully to his patients and include them in decisions pertinent to their care. He treats his patients in a multidisciplinary fashion with his colleagues (spinal surgeons, pain management consultants, radiologists, physiotherapist and psychologist). This offers his patients a comprehensive service of care. Mr Sedra uses online software to provide his patients with video and readable material about the procedure they are due to undertake which patients have found useful in understanding all aspects of their care and helped them feel comfortable before surgery.

Mr Sedra is also interested in teaching and education. He shared in the development and supervision of the spinal fellowship scheme at the Royal London Hospital which is now one of the most competitive fellowships in the UK. He also teaches the MSc course at Queen Mary and University College London. He runs regular teaching sessions for the junior doctors at The Royal London Hospital to empower them with the knowledge to treat spinal pathologies and manage spinal emergences.

Outside work, Mr Sedra is an avid reader and enjoys photography and spending time with his family.
