Most of her postgraduate training took place at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, including several years on the Liver Unit where her research on the Liver Unit led to the award of a Doctorate in Medicine from Nottingham University in 2007.
She has been a Consultant Gastroenterologist at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust since January 2007 and was elected FRCP in 2012. Dr Unitt is the clinical lead for alcoholic liver disease and the lead for gastroenterology undergraduate education.
She has an interest in research and is the Hepatology lead for the West Midlands (South) CLRN (Comprehensive Local Research Network).
Dr Esther Unitt can offer a comprehensive Gastroenterology service including consultation and endoscopy at The Meriden Hospital. She can provide both a diagnostic and a therapeutic endoscopy service.

As well as expertise in general gastroenterology, Dr Unitt has a specific interest in liver disease and the management of its complications including; viral hepatitis B and C, abnormal liver function, fatty liver, alcoholic liver disease, auto-immune hepatitis, cirrhosis (including primary biliary cirrhosis) and chronic liver disease management. She also performs liver fibroscan.
Dr Unitt is happy to see referrals regarding all aspects of liver disease, reflux and dyspepsia, inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome and also suspected upper and lower GI cancer.
