Ms Campbell graduated from The University of Glasgow Medical School in 2001 before completing training in general surgery with a specialist interest in breast disease. During her surgical training she spent an additional 3 years researching breast cancer, for which she was awarded a PhD from The University of Glasgow in 2013. Her continued research work resulted in her being awarded the prestigious Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT) Medal, 2016. Her final year of training involved undertaking an oncoplastic breast fellowship at the Canniesburn plastic surgical unit.
Since being appointed as a Consultant Breast Surgeon in 2017, she has developed the oncoplastic breast service in two health boards, with a specialist interest in extending the role of breast conservation surgery. In addition, she has led the introduction of improved techniques for localisation surgery and sentinel node biopsy. She is on the advisory board for the West of Scotland cancer network and is involved in breast cancer management guideline development. She chairs the regional risk reduction and family history subgroup meetings.
She is a fully committed Oncological Breast Surgeon who remains active in breast cancer research and is up to date with all important developments in breast cancer research that translate to best clinical practice. She lectures for The University of Glasgow and is an examiner for PhD thesis in breast cancer. She has a strong commitment to training our future breast surgeons. She has a number of scientific publications related to her research and co-authored a book chapter dedicated to the oncological safety of oncoplastic breast conservation surgery.
Ms Campbell does not perform cosmetic breast surgery such as breast reduction, breast uplift or breast enlargement/augmentation.
