Personal Profile

Dr Edward Littleton is a Consultant Neurologist at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (Queen Elizabeth Hospital), where he is involved in the treatment of patients with Acute Stroke and Transient Ischaemic Attack and in the Acute Neurology Service. He undertakes General Neurology clinics, covering a wide spectrum of Neurological disorders, including migraine and balance disorders.

He is involved in clinical trials and other research in Stroke, and teaches medical students. Dr Littleton read Medical Sciences at Jesus College, University of Cambridge, and completed clinical training at University College London, qualifying in 1996. After junior medical posts in and around London, he researched antibody-mediated neurological diseases at the Institute of Molecular Medicine in Oxford and gained a DPhil (Christ Church, University of Oxford).  In 2011, he was appointed Consultant Neurologist at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, where he is a core member of the acute stroke service and general neurology service.

Clinical Interests

Dr Littleton specialises in Stroke Medicine, particularly the assessment and management of acute stroke and transient ischaemic attack, and investigations into underlying stroke causation.  He has research interests in stroke biomarkers and mechanisms of thrombus (clot) formation.  He is also widely experienced in assessing and managing general neurological disorders, including Headache disorders, Epilepsy, Parkinson’s Disease and Gait disorders.
