Personal Profile

Edward graduated from the University of Birmingham Medical School and undertook early years of junior doctor training in and around the West Midlands.

Prior to higher surgical training, he returned to the University of Birmingham Medical School where he successfully completed a research project funded by a grant from the UK Medical Research Council (UK MRC) exploring a protective role of Immune cells in Liver Inflammation.

Alongside his research, he received clinical training at the Liver Transplant Unit of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. This prestigious research led to the award of a higher degree; Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

He then moved to Liverpool to undergo higher surgical training in the Mersey Deanery during which time he undertook further research, funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) to identify novel ways of using Immune cells to treat acute pancreatitis.

On completing higher surgical training and obtaining a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), he commenced a post-CCT fellowship at the Hepatobiliary Surgery unit of Queen Medical Centre in Nottingham ultimately leading to employment as a Consultant Hepatobiliary & General Surgeon at the Queens Medical Centre campus of Nottingham University Hospitals.

Clinical Interests

Edward’s clinical practice includes pancreas, liver surgery and day case procedures such as gallbladder and hernia surgery.

He has specialist interests in managing acute and chronic pancreatitis (pancreatic inflammation), and neuroendocrine tumours.

He is the local Principal Investigator for the UK Multicentre Sunflower randomised clinical trial looking at the management of gallstones, the Governance Lead for Emergency General Surgery, and the National Emergency Laparotomy Audit (NELA) lead at Queen Medical Centre in Nottingham.
