Dr Saadet Ipek Edipoglu is a Consultant in Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine and Clinical Director for Pain Management at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust in London. She has worked as a consultant at the Trust since 2021 . Her practice combines the assessment and treatment of chronic pain with extensive experience in anaesthesia, peri-operative medicine and multidisciplinary care. She is on the General Medical Council Specialist Register and has more than 20 years of medical experience since qualifying in 2005.

Dr Edipoglu has undertaken specialist training across anaesthesia, intensive care and pain medicine. She completed her specialty training in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care at Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in 2013. She subsequently completed dedicated specialist training in Pain Medicine at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine, one of Turkey’s established academic pain centres, in 2020.In the same year, she was awarded the academic title of Associate Professor in Anaesthesiology and Pain Medicine, reflecting her academic achievements and contributions to research, education and clinical practice.

Her particular expertise is in interventional pain medicine. She has extensive experience in image-guided procedures for spinal, neuropathic, musculoskeletal and complex persistent pain. Her clinical work has included epidural and nerve root injections, facet joint procedures and radiofrequency treatments, sympathetic blocks and a wide range of peripheral nerve interventions. 

Education and training are an important part of her professional work. Dr Edipoglu is an examiner for the European Diploma in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care and serves as an examiner for the Fellow of Interventional Pain Practice examination. She is also a trainer on international cadaver workshops in interventional pain medicine. She has taught anaesthetic trainees, pain medicine fellows and medical students, and previously worked as a lecturer and Programme Coordinator of Pain Medicine at Istanbul Basaksehir Cam and Sakura City Hospital.

Dr Edipoglu is a Fellow of Interventional Pain Practice and an Associate Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Royal College of Anaesthetists. She has been a member of the NYSORA Editorial Board since 2024 and has editorial experience with PLOS ONE. Her academic work includes peer-reviewed publications in pain medicine, regional anaesthesia, anaesthesia and intensive care. Her research interests include radiofrequency treatments for spinal pain, image-guided interventions, regional anaesthesia and improving outcomes for patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain.

Alongside her clinical and academic work, Dr Edipoglu is actively involved in audit, quality improvement and service development. She aims to combine evidence-based medicine, technical expertise and compassionate communication to provide safe, practical and personalised care for people living with persistent pain.

Clinical Interests

Her specialist practice encompasses a broad range of chronic pain conditions, including spinal and radicular pain, neuropathic pain, cancer-related pain, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), persistent post-surgical pain, joint and musculoskeletal pain, and other complex chronic pain syndromes. She has particular expertise in image-guided interventional pain procedures, including epidural and selective nerve root injections, radiofrequency treatments, sympathetic blocks, and a wide range of ultrasound- and fluoroscopy-guided peripheral nerve interventions.
