Dr Rebekah Gabriel graduated from Warwick Medical School in 2015 and completed her GP training in Bath. She specialises in skin lesion management and minor surgery, holding GPwER status with Group 2 Dermatology accreditation for skin lesion care.

Dr Gabriel has developed extensive experience in aesthetic medicine and clinical minor surgery, with a particular focus on assessing and removing benign skin lesions. Her work in both private practice and the NHS has given her broad expertise in diagnosing and treating a wide range of skin lesions, including the excision of low‑risk skin cancers. She regularly removes benign lesions such as moles, seborrhoeic keratoses, skin tags, cysts, lipomas and other non‑cancerous growths.

A benign skin lesion is a non‑cancerous growth or change in the skin. These lesions are very common and may develop due to age, genetics or sun exposure. Although harmless, they can become irritated, itchy, catch on clothing or be removed for cosmetic reasons.

During your consultation, Dr Gabriel will assess the lesion, discuss whether removal is appropriate and advise on the most suitable technique. All lesions removed at Bath Clinic are sent for histological examination to confirm the diagnosis.

Moles are common and can appear anywhere on the body, varying in colour and size. When they become bothersome or raised, they can be removed using a shave biopsy, which gently removes the upper portion of the mole to flatten the area. The site heals naturally, similar to a graze, and the tissue is sent for histological analysis.

Seborrhoeic keratoses are benign, keratinised skin growths with a characteristic “stuck‑on” appearance. They vary widely in colour and size and may become dry, rough or itchy. They can be removed effectively using curettage, where the lesion is gently scraped from the skin surface. Removed tissue is sent for histology.

Skin tags are soft, harmless growths that typically develop in areas of friction such as the neck, armpits or groin. They can catch on clothing or jewellery and are usually removed easily with curettage, depending on their size and appearance.

Cysts commonly occur on the scalp, face or body and form when a blocked follicle develops a capsule beneath the skin. They may remain small or gradually enlarge, and can become inflamed or infected. Removal involves a small incision and complete excision of the cyst and its capsule, followed by suturing. The cyst is sent for histological confirmation.

Lipomas are benign fatty lumps beneath the skin. Soft and mobile, they can vary significantly in size and may occur singly or in multiples. When removal is appropriate, a small incision is made and the encapsulated fatty lump is carefully excised before the wound is closed with sutures. Tissue is sent for histology.
