About Mr Dham Mobarak

Personal Profile

Mr Mobarak is a fully accredited specialist consultant surgeon on the General Medical Council's specialist register for Upper Gastro-Intestinal and Laparoscopic surgery. He is a Consultant in the NHS at the City and Sandwell Hospitals NHS Trust Birmingham, as well as and an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Birmingham. He offers Upper Gastro-intestinal and Laparoscopic surgery in his NHS and private practice.

He qualified and trained in general surgery and obtained the FRCS fellowship qualification in surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Glasgow 1997, and completed his specialist surgical training (CCT).

He teaches surgical skills and techniques to the trainee consultant surgeons. He has regular commitments in various training courses, teaching laparoscopic surgery, as a supervisor introducing junior surgeons to surgery, and as a supervisor to medical students studying at the University of Birmingham.

As part of Continuing Medical Education, He regularly attends meetings and courses. During his training he spent one month in the national cancer centre, Tokyo, Japan, and also visited the Memorial Sloan-Kettering cancer centre, New York, USA.

He runs a successful private practice in Upper GI surgery, Laparoscopic cholecystectomy, and laparoscopic hernias and in laparoscopic anti reflux surgery (Nissen Fundoplication).

He has interest in Gastro intestinal surgery, He has advanced laparoscopic skills. The majority of hi work is minimally invasive surgery of the:

• Gastro intestinal surgery with advanced laparoscopic skills. 
• Minimally invasive surgery including:
• Laparoscopic cholecystectomy with intra operative cholangiogram, He has performed more than 3000 operations.
• Laparoscopic Exploration CBD
• Laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery fundoplication (Nissen Fundoplication) and Hiatus hernia repair.
• Laparoscopic hernia repair (TEP: Totally extra peritoneal, TAP: Trans peritoneal, incisional), He has performed more than 3000 laparoscopic hernia repairs.
• Staging gastrointestinal cancers
• Laparoscopic Appendicectomy
• Laparoscopic repair of perforated gastro-duodenal ulcer
• Laparoscopic gastro-intestinal anastomosis, and bowel obstruction due to adhesions

He is lead clinician for Morbidity and Mortality in the surgical department at City and Sandwell Hospital NHS trust, Birmingham. He has been involved in writing the relevant guide lines for the trust. He has been involved in academic research. Multicentric prospective project was conducted on 460 elderly cancers for their Preoperative Assessment of Cancer in Elderly (PACE). Six papers and three presentations came out of it. 

He has also undertaken a project on Japanese D2 extended lymph node dissection in a British population: analysis of survival results, the results were published in peer-review professional journals.
