He specialises in lower limb arthroplasty (joint replacement) surgery performing hip replacements, revisions and resurfacings. Mr Dunlop has been involved with the National Joint Registry since it was established in 2003.
Mr Dunlop's fellowship year in Vancouver concentrated on revision or ‘redo’ hip and knee replacement surgery and was an opportunity to work with international leaders in this field.
He is currently the National Joint Registry (NJR) Regional Clinical Coordinator for the West Midlands Strategic Health Authority. Since he joined the Royal Orthopaedic hospital he has sat on the Infection control committee and facilitated the introduction of routine screening for MRSA.
Mr David Dunlop uses a variety of hip implants ranging from hip resurfacings to complex specialised revision prostheses and proximal femoral replacements for occasional cases where there has been severe bone loss. For first time replacements he offers the choice of hip resurfacing, uncemented total hip replacements with modern bearings or conventional cemented implants and will endeavour to match the best implants to each patient’s individual circumstances and requirements.
Mr Dunlop currently operates at the Priory Hospital in Birmingham.
He enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters. Mr Dunlop is an occasional golfer, tennis player and skier.
