Mr Iles completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of Manchester, following a BSc in Medical Science at the University of St Andrews. He undertook formal subspecialist training in urogynaecology, completing this in 2018, and is on the General Medical Council Specialist Register with Subspecialist Accreditation in Urogynaecology. This represents the highest level of formal training in the field in the UK.
His surgical practice includes the use of minimally invasive and robotic-assisted techniques, including the Da Vinci system, where appropriate. He regards these as valuable tools that can enhance surgical precision and recovery when used judiciously alongside established techniques. His overall approach is firmly conservative-first, and he works closely with specialist pelvic floor physiotherapists and bladder health nurses to ensure that non-surgical options such as pelvic floor rehabilitation, lifestyle modification, and medical management are fully explored before surgery is considered. Central to his practice is tailoring treatment to the individual woman’s symptoms, circumstances, and priorities.
Mr Iles’ clinical approach is informed by his doctoral research (MD) at the University of Manchester, which explored the relationship between pelvic floor dysfunction, perineal trauma, and body image. This research provided him with extensive experience in the assessment of perineal problems and recovery following childbirth, highlighting the profound impact these issues can have on a woman's emotional well-being and self-confidence. These insights remain a cornerstone of his practice at The Alexandra Hospital, where he emphasizes a holistic, patient-centered approach, prioritizing unhurried consultations where women feel heard and supported.
