 Dr David Walker qualified with distinction from Imperial College London (Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School) in 2000.  

He did his gastroenterology training in London, working at a number of teaching hospitals including St Mark’s Hospital, St Mary’s Hospital, and Charing Cross Hospital. This provided him with excellent training in all aspects of gastroenterology.  

Dr Walker spent three years doing research at Imperial College London studying the role of genetics and gut bacteria in gastrointestinal inflammation, he was awarded a Research Doctorate of Medicine in 2011. He has published his research in a number of international peer reviewed medical journals. In addition, he has written five book chapters and given invited talks for the charity Crohn's and Colitis UK.  

He has been working as a Gastroenterology Consultant in Bath since 2013 and is currently the lead for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) at the Royal United Hospital, Bath (2021).

Dr Walker is an accredited endoscopist (for gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy & colonoscopy) with the Joint Advisory Group of GI Endoscopy (JAG).  He is also a national endoscopy trainer for JAG, teaching on endoscopy training courses in the UK, with excellent validated feedback.

Dr Walker has a keen interest in teaching and training, he completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education at the Royal College of Physicians/University College London. He is a Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Bristol and teaches medical students at the Royal United Hospital, Bath.
