About Dr Danny Cheung

Personal Profile

Dr Cheung is a full-time Consultant Gastroenterologist at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, where he has worked since 2016. He specialises in the diagnosis and management of all aspects of gastroenterology, liver disease, and gastrointestinal cancers.

He is an experienced endoscopist and holds full Joint Advisory Group (JAG) accreditation, ensuring a high-quality, safe endoscopy service. His clinical practice is consistently supported by excellent patient feedback.

Dr Cheung qualified from King’s College London Medical School in 2002. After completing his MRCP (Membership of the Royal College of Physicians), he was appointed as a Specialist Registrar in the West Midlands Deanery in 2009, where he completed his specialist training in gastroenterology.

During his training, he spent a year working in the liver transplant unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, gaining advanced experience in complex liver disease.

He achieved accreditation in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine in 2016.

Dr Cheung was awarded an MD from the University of Birmingham following two years as a Clinical Research Fellow during his higher specialist training. His research focused on improving the early diagnosis of gastrointestinal cancers.

He has authored more than 20 peer-reviewed publications and has presented his work at both national and international conferences. His research achievements have been recognised with several prizes and travel fellowships.

He continues to contribute to clinical research as a Principal Investigator within his NHS Trust, supporting studies that aim to improve patient outcomes in gastroenterology and cancer care.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr Cheung plays an active role in medical education and training.

He is:

  • An examiner for the University of Birmingham
  • A Royal College of Physicians accredited Educational Supervisor
  • A JAG-accredited endoscopy trainer
  • The Worcestershire Endoscopy Training Academy Lead

Through these roles, he supports the training of junior doctors and contributes to maintaining high standards in endoscopy and gastroenterology services.

Dr Cheung is committed to delivering safe, evidence-based, and patient-focused care. He combines specialist clinical expertise with a strong emphasis on clear communication and patient support throughout diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care.

  • Bowel conditions: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Coeliac disease and gluten sensitivity
  • Hepatobiliary (liver) conditions including fatty liver disease and chronic liver disease
  • Diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy: gastroscopy (OGD), colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and ERCP
  • Polypectomy (removal of polyps).
