About Dr Daniel Fishman

Personal Profile

Dr Daniel Fishman is a Consultant Physician and Rheumatologist working in both the NHS and private practice. He investigates and treats all forms of inflammatory and degenerative arthritis, as well as back pain, osteoporosis, connective tissue disease and soft-tissue rheumatism, such as fibromyalgia (which is one of his clinical interests). He has particular experience in the field of Paediatric Rheumatology.

Dr Fishman graduated as MB BS from St Mary’s Hospital Medical School (now part of Imperial College) in 1988, having also taken an intercalated BSc in Neuroanatomy during his medical studies. He obtained membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 1991 and was elected as a Fellow of the College in 2006.  In 1999, he was awarded a PhD from the University of London for Molecular Pathology research related to Juvenile Arthritis.

In 2001, he was appointed as a Consultant Physician and Rheumatologist at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital, where he now leads the adult rheumatology service and where he set up the paediatric rheumatology service. As part of the development of the department, Dr Fishman has undergone training in the use of diagnostic ultrasound, which he uses in his NHS clinics.

He continues to provide general medical service to the hospital as well, running one of the general medical wards in turn with colleagues. He has held several senior positions in the hospital, such as Lead Clinician for Acute Medicine, helping to develop the hospital’s acute medical service. In 2015, he was appointed as Clinical Director for Rheumatology and has been responsible for developing the department's services and expanding its workforce.

In addition to his work for the hospital, he served for seven years as Treasurer for the British Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Rheumatology.
