About Mr Daniel Burke

Personal Profile

Mr Daniel Burke is a Consultant Urological Surgeon based at Manchester University Foundation Trusts (Manchester Royal Infirmary & Wythenshawe Hospitals). He was appointed in 2010 after successfully establishing a minimally invasive prostate and kidney service as a Consultant in Derby & Sherwood Forest NHS Trusts.

He graduated from London University and subsequently gained his training in Bath, Manchester, Liverpool and Australia, before completing his urological surgical training with a fellowship in Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery in the world-renowned urological centre in Bordeaux, France.

Mr Burke covers all aspects of adult urology and continues his sub-specialist interests in urology cancer diagnosis and treatment, along with benign prostate conditions. He is a strong supporter of active surveillance where appropriate for prostate cancer. Along with his colleagues at 'Manchester Urology', he has advanced the techniques of prostate cancer diagnosis with the establishment of Multiparametric MRI, Transperineal Template Prostate Biopsy and MR Fusion Targeted Prostate Biopsy. He has also continued to develop minimally invasive techniques with the establishment of an entirely 3-D laparoscopic surgery at the Manchester Royal Infirmary. More recently, he is involved with developing the robotic surgical practice within his NHS practice.

He is an enthusiastic teacher and a member of the educational faculty of 'The European Institute of TeleSurgery' at The University Hospital, Strasbourg. There, he regularly teaches on their international courses and is also involved in the training and mentoring of fellow UK consultants in minimally invasive surgery.

Daniel is married with 3 daughters. He enjoys most sports and tries to keep fit by setting himself annual challenges, often helping to raise money for various charities; most recently the London Marathon were he raised over £6000 for Meningitis.

  • Lower urinary tract symptoms
