About Mr Craig Jones

Personal Profile

Craig is a Consultant Urological Surgeon with expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of urological cancers, with particular interest in prostate cancer. He takes a personalised, risk-adapted approach to care, aiming to optimise both cancer control and quality of life for my patients. His clinical practice includes multiparametric MRI scan interpretation, performing targeted transperineal prostate biopsies under local anaesthetic, as well as robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy to minimise side effects and support a faster recovery. Where appropriate he performs nerve sparing prostatectomy and utilise the "hood technique", which has been shown to help improve continence outcomes.

He manages the full spectrum of prostate cancer—from early-stage disease to advanced cancer that has spread beyond the prostate. He is passionate about survivorship care, recognising that men often live long and fulfilling lives during and after prostate cancer treatment. His approach focuses on supporting patients at every stage of their journey.

He studied medicine at The University of Manchester, graduating in 2013. During his undergraduate career he was awarded a Master of Research (MRes) in Oncology with Distinction. He completed my surgical training in General and Urological surgery in the NorthWest of England and was awarded the Keith Yeates Gold Medal for outstanding performance in the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons examination (FRCS Urol).

Alongside his training he carried out research focusing on the musculoskeletal effects of treatments for advanced prostate cancer as part of the STAMPEDE Trial Translational Research Group and Genito Urinary Cancer Research Group at The Christie Hospital, supervised by Prof Noel Clarke. He was awarded a Doctor of Medicine (MD) in 2023

He has published research in several high-impact, peer-reviewed journals (Lancet Oncology, JAMA Oncology, Annals of Oncology) and regularly presents his work at both national and international conferences. His academic work aims to translate scientific findings into meaningful improvements in patient care, and he remains actively involved in ongoing clinical research and innovation in prostate cancer treatment. He is an active member of the STAMPEDE and STAMPEDE2 Trial Management Groups.

In addition to his clinical and academic work, he serves as the Early Diagnosis Lead for Urological Cancers at the Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance, collaborating closely with primary care teams to improve diagnostic pathways and outcomes for patients. He is also a Prostate Cancer UK Clinical Champion.

his NHS practice is based at Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport NHS Trust. He is also a Consultant at Macclesfield General Hospital and Tameside General Hospital, where he serves as the Deputy Clinical Director. He lives in Cheadle Hulme with his wife and two children.
