Prof Colm trained in Dublin, London and Stanford University Medical Center in California. He has been a Consultant Thoracic Physician since 2000 and Consultant Clinical Adviser to NICE since 2008.

He is a honorary Professor of Respiratory Medicine from the Manchester Academic Health Sciences Centre since 2019.
