Ms Cinzia Sammartino is a Consultant General and Transplant Surgeon with over 25 years of surgical experience and has been a Consultant at Barts Health NHS Trust since 2009. She is based at the Royal London Hospital, where she combines a busy NHS practice with an established private practice, providing expert care in general surgery, proctology, abdominal wall hernia surgery and renal transplantation. 

After graduating in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Milan, Italy, Ms Sammartino completed her specialist surgical training in Italy before undertaking further higher surgical training in France and the United Kingdom. Her international training has provided extensive experience in both open and minimally invasive surgery and has shaped her patient-centred approach to surgical care.

Within the NHS, Ms Sammartino has extensive experience in elective and emergency general surgery and has developed particular expertise in renal transplantation. She previously served as Clinical Lead for the Renal Transplant Service at the Royal London Hospital, contributing to the development of one of the United Kingdom's busiest kidney transplant programmes. She continues to play an active role within the multidisciplinary transplant team and remains committed to improving outcomes for patients with kidney disease. 

Ms Sammartino has a specialist interest in the diagnosis and treatment of benign colorectal and proctology conditions, including haemorrhoids, anal fissures, anal fistulas and pilonidal disease. She is committed to offering minimally invasive, evidence-based treatments whenever appropriate, including office-based procedures such as rubber band ligation, injection sclerotherapy and eXroid® electrotherapy, helping many patients avoid more invasive surgery and recover more quickly. Her practice also includes the management of inguinal, umbilical, femoral, epigastric and incisional hernias, together with the removal of lipomas, sebaceous cysts and other benign skin and soft tissue lesions. She believes in tailoring treatment to each individual, ensuring patients receive personalised care based on their needs and expectations. 

Teaching, research and innovation are important aspects of Ms Sammartino's practice. As a Consultant Surgeon at a major teaching hospital, she is actively involved in training medical students, foundation doctors and surgical trainees through outpatient clinics, operating theatres and multidisciplinary team meetings. She has authored more than forty peer-reviewed publications and regularly presents at national and international conferences. Her research interests include renal transplantation, minimally invasive proctology, enhanced recovery after surgery and the evaluation of innovative surgical technologies.

Ms Sammartino specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of general surgical and colorectal conditions, with a particular focus on minimally invasive techniques that reduce pain, minimise recovery time and enable patients to return to normal activities as quickly as possible. • Anal skin tags and benign anorectal conditions
