Background

Dr Barber was born and raised in Derbyshire, before attending medical school in Nottingham. He completed his respiratory training in Sheffield and Manchester, prior to being appointed as a Consultant in Sheffield in 2005.

Research and Publications

Dr Barber has a national profile in occupational and environmental lung disease, and is a Medical Adviser to the Health and Safety Executive. He has an established research track record, having published over 50 peer-reviewed publications, and is an Honorary Reader at Sheffield University.

Teaching and Training

He has produced a wide range of educational material, including 5 book chapters and 2 e-learning modules. He is the lead author of the European Respiratory Society Monograph on Occupational Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis, and co-organises the British Thoracic Society Short Course in Occupational and Environmental Lung Disease.
