About Mr Chris Andrew Ayshford

Personal Profile

Mr Chris Ayshford is an experienced Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Surgeon working at Worcestershire Royal Hospital and The Alexandra Hospital Redditch. He provides specialist ENT care for both adults and children across South Worcestershire and the Redditch and Bromsgrove areas.

He has extensive experience in diagnosing and treating a wide range of ear, nose, throat, head, and neck conditions, combining specialist surgical expertise with a patient-centred approach.

Mr Ayshford qualified in medicine in London and completed his postgraduate ENT training in the West Midlands. He then went on to undertake advanced subspecialty fellowship training in Head and Neck Surgery in Adelaide, Australia.

This fellowship provided specialist experience in complex head and neck conditions, further developing his expertise in surgical management of thyroid, salivary gland, and throat disorders.

Following his fellowship, he was appointed as an ENT Consultant at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust in February 2006.

Mr Ayshford has a subspecialty interest in head and neck conditions, particularly disorders affecting the throat, neck, thyroid, and salivary glands. He is experienced in both the medical and surgical management of these conditions.

In addition to his specialist work, he provides a full general ENT service, covering a wide range of ear, nose, and throat conditions in both adults and children.

His clinical practice includes assessment and treatment of common ENT problems as well as more complex head and neck conditions requiring specialist surgical care.

Mr Ayshford is the Head and Neck Cancer Lead for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. In this role, he oversees the care and treatment pathways for patients diagnosed with head and neck cancers, ensuring coordinated, high-quality multidisciplinary care.

He is also the Educational Supervisor for junior doctors in ENT, supporting their training and development throughout their specialist training.

In addition, he serves as the Clinical Governance and Audit Lead for the ENT department. In this role, he helps maintain high clinical standards, patient safety, and continuous improvement in ENT services.

Mr Ayshford is actively involved in clinical research and is the Principal Investigator for two multicentre clinical trials. These studies focus on thyroid cancer and glue ear, contributing to ongoing improvements in diagnosis and treatment within ENT practice.

Mr Ayshford is committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care tailored to each patient’s needs. His approach focuses on accurate diagnosis, clear communication, and effective treatment planning, ensuring patients receive appropriate and timely ENT care.
