About Dr Carolyn Aplin

Personal Profile

Dr Aplin is a Consultant Dermatologist with a special interest in Vulval Dermatology. She was formerly a Consultant at the RUH, Bath from 2003—2015 when she took early retirement for family reasons. Here she held the post of Lead Clinician from 2010-2013. She was responsible for setting up the RUH Vulval Dermatology service in 1999 and has worked collaboratively with Gynaecologists, Colorectal surgeons and Sexual Health specialists in the Trust.

In addition to this she is interested in the diagnosis and treatment of lumps and bumps, hair and nail disorders, eczema, psoriasis, skin cancers and sun damage.

In her early career she was a GP Principal for 7 years in a busy inner city practice in London and developed an interest in Women‘s health. She feels that working as a GP has given her a broad-based training and understanding of the impact ill health has on the patients‘ psychological well-being.

For any patient that has a Lipoma greater than 2cm, this will require surgical input rather than a Dermatologist. Please refer to a Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon for the neck and head, or a General/Plastic Surgeon for all other body areas.
