About Camus Nimmo

Personal Profile

Dr Camus Nimmo is a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine. He is passionate about providing high quality care with the patient at the centre, and working together to find a personalised approach for each person. He is keen to make sure that each patient has the time to have their condition and any test results explained to them in as much detail as they would like, and that they are empowered to understand and manage their own condition.

Dr Nimmo has over ten years of experience in all aspects of respiratory medicine. In addition to his private work, he also works in NHS practice at Northwick Park Hospital, where he is joint trust-wide Clinical Director for Respiratory Medicine with oversights of all aspects of clinical care.

He has a particular interest in respiratory infections, especially recurrent infections or those which do not respond to usual treatments. He developed and currently leads the respiratory infection service at his trust. He also regularly sees patients with unexplained cough, wheeze and breathlessness, either without a diagnosis or who already know they have a condition such as asthma or COPD. He arranges comprehensive assessments including tests such as CT scans and lung function testing. He is experienced at performing procedures such as drainage of fluid from around the lungs (pleural aspiration), bronchoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS).

He is enthusiastic about ensuring that patients have access to the most recent medical advances. He is currently the local principal investigator for clinical trials for the next generation of medications to treat asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchiectasis and is keen to highlight opportunities to for patients to have access to new drugs. He has been awarded multiple scholarships for presentation of new respiratory infection research at the British Thoracic Society and American Thoracic Society conferences.

He qualified from the University of Cambridge (BA 2007) and University College London Medical School (MB BS 2010) with distinctions in clinical science and clinical practice. He was subsequently awarded an Academic Clinical Fellowship at UCL, and through this completed respiratory training in North East London including rotations at St Bartholomew’s Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital. He holds a PhD from University College London (2020) where he studied DNA sequencing to help diagnose drug resistance in tuberculosis and published several first author articles about the challenges of drug resistant respiratory infections.

He is up to date with the current advances in respiratory training and skills, and is actively involved in training the next generation of doctors. He supervises multiple resident doctors in training and regularly takes part in national respiratory recruitment assessments.

In addition to his expertise in respiratory medicine, Dr Nimmo also regularly sees patients with a wide range of medical problems through his participation in the general medical service and high dependency unit rotas at Northwick Park.
