About Mr Callum Wilson McBryde

Personal Profile

Mr McBryde specialises in all the conditions that cause hip and groin pain. He is proficient in all the clinical and surgical aspects of the specialist field of young adult hip surgery. This includes femoral and acetabular osteotomies (both periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) and triple pelvic osteotomy), hip arthroscopy, resurfacing and total hip replacement.

Mr McBryde qualified as a doctor from the University of Manchester. He then completed his general surgical and specialist orthopaedic training in Birmingham. Early in his surgical career he was awarded the esteemed RH Sage Award for the best surgical trainee of the year. Closely involved in the growing interest in hip resurfacing he was awarded the first ever scholarship, awarded by the British Hip Society, which allowed him to complete a doctoral higher degree. The results of this research resulted in him being invited to share his findings with many other orthopaedic surgeons. He has lectured and taught at a number of international meetings in North America, Europe and Australia. On completion of his training he spent a year of fellowship in Sydney with one of the world leaders in hip surgery in young patients, Dr Solomon.

Mr McBryde was awarded the European Travelling fellowship by the British Hip Society where he spent time with world leaders in young adult hip surgery Dr Beck (Lucerne, Switzerland), and Dr Leunig (Zurich, Switzerland). He has also spent attachments with other recognized experts Dr O’Donnell (Melbourne, Australia) and Dr Young (Melbourne, Australia).

Since being appointed as a consultant in 2011 he has developed an interest in robotic assisted total hip replacement and total hip replacement using a direct anterior approach.

He is a member on the NAHR user group as part of the British Hip Society that measures the outcomes of hip preservation procedures.
