About Mr Brian Little

Personal Profile

Mr Brian Little qualified in 1995 from Queen’s University in Belfast, before going on to work as a junior doctor in the Belfast surgical rotation. After becoming a member of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1998, Mr Little began to specialise in Urology.

Mr Little completed a two year MD project in Queen’s University Belfast looking at genetic markers of bladder cancer, as well as the non-invasive use of these markers to detect bladder cancer. He joined the subspecialty training programme for Urology in the West of Scotland in 2002, before going on to become a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2007 and entered on to the specialist register. Mr Little has been a consultant for 15 years in Ayrshire, acting as Departmental Clinical Director for 7 of these years.

A majority of Mr Little’s work involves treating men with urinary symptoms because of prostate enlargement, either operatively or non-operatively. He is also trained in prostate cancer diagnostics, as well as regularly treating erection problems and other penis problems such as a foreskin that will not retract. Furthermore, Mr Little investigates and treats blood in the urine and recurrent urinary infections.

Mr Little regularly carries out diagnostic procedures such as flexible cystoscopy, whilst he is also capable of performing numerous procedures without the requirement for general anaesthetic including injections, vasectomy and circumcision. He also performs procedures for patients under general anaesthetic, where medically required or preferred by the patient – these include trans-urethral resection of bladder tumour (TURBT), trans-urethral resection of prostate (TURP), and procedures for scrotal swelling.
