About Dr Bhavini Patel

Personal Profile

Dr Bhavini Patel is a Consultant Neurologist at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, with a specialist focus on stroke, headache disorders, and acute neurological presentations. She leads both the Acute Neurology and Headache Services, as well as the Clinical Research Department at the Trust.

She completed her medical degree at Guy’s, King’s, and St Thomas’ School of Medicine, followed by postgraduate training across London and Kent. Her specialist neurology training was undertaken at St George’s Hospital and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery at Queen Square—two of the UK’s leading centres for neurological care.

Dr Patel holds an MDRes from St George’s University, where her research focused on surrogate imaging markers of cerebral small vessel disease. Her academic work has contributed to a deeper understanding of conditions such as white matter disease, lacunar strokes, and cerebral microbleeds, particularly in relation to cognitive decline. She has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, reinforcing her dual role as a clinician and researcher.

In her clinical practice, Dr Patel runs two specialist tertiary headache clinics each week, where she manages complex headache disorders including chronic migraine, cluster headache, and medication-overuse headache. She also facilitates access to novel migraine therapies, including CGRP inhibitors, for patients who have not responded to standard treatments.

As the lead for the Acute Neurology Service, Dr Patel oversees urgent inpatient referrals and admissions, ensuring timely diagnosis and management of neurological emergencies. Her multidisciplinary approach involves close collaboration with stroke physicians, neuroradiologists, and rehabilitation teams to deliver integrated care.

Dr Patel is also actively involved in clinical research and innovation. Under her leadership, the Clinical Research Department supports a range of studies aimed at improving outcomes for patients with cerebrovascular and neurological disorders.

Patients frequently commend Dr Patel for her thoroughness, empathy, and clear communication. Verified patient reviews can be accessed via her profile on https://www.doctify.com/uk/specialist/dr-bhavini-patel where she maintains a strong reputation for excellence in care.

Outside of medicine, Dr Patel is a dedicated endurance athlete. She regularly competes in triathlons and marathons across the UK and internationally, bringing the same discipline and focus to her athletic pursuits as she does to her clinical work.
