Following this, Ben went on to spend a year in the urology department at Auckland City Hospital, New Zealand, where he gained considerable experience in minimally invasive and open oncological surgery and reconstructive urology. He then returned to the East Midlands to complete his higher surgical training.
In 2010 he obtained a fellowship in Western Australia, during which he continued to develop his sub specialist interest and expertise in urological cancer, robotic surgery, and minimal access surgery.
Ben Sherwood has been a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Nottingham City Hospital (Nottingham University NHS Trust) since 2012. He has extensive experience in performing robotic prostatectomy using the world renowned da Vinci Surgical System and in performing minimally invasive surgery for kidney and upper urinary tract malignancy. He also offers expertise in the management of benign prostate disease and general urology. He leads the urology cancer multidisciplinary team for Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. Ben is highly regarded as an expert both in prostate cancer diagnostics and the surgical management of prostate cancer.
Ben is passionate about teaching and is heavily involved in teaching medical students and the next generation of urologists. He provides training in robotic prostate surgery to medical colleagues from across the globe. Ben is well published in the field of prostate cancer and laparoscopic surgery and regularly lectures on this subject.
Ben is married and has two children. Outside of work he follows his keen interests in rugby, music and running.
