About Mr Ben Rudge

Personal Profile

Mr Rudge was appointed Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon to West Hertfordshire NHS in 2012. He specialises in Foot and Ankle surgery and is part of the Orthopaedic trauma service looking after patients with injuries related to all aspects of the foot and ankle.

Mr Rudge trained at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore and the Royal London Hospital before completing Advanced Fellowship Training in Foot and Ankle Surgery in Windsor. He also trained in minimally invasive surgery and uses these techniques when appropriate. Mr Rudge practices a multidisciplinary approach working alongside Orthotists and Physiotherapists to offer a comprehensive treatment of all foot and ankle conditions.

Mr Rudge has held various positions of responsibility in his NHS Trust; he was previously the College Tutor for Surgery - a joint appointment by the Trust and Royal College of Surgeons, responsible for ensuring standards for higher training are met. He was part of the Divisional Governance committee responsible for ensuring safe surgical practice and also the designated Paediatric Liaison Surgeon within the Orthopaedic Department. He moved from these positions in order to take up the role of Clinical Director for the department of Trauma and Orthopaedics, a role he held for four and half years until 2024.

Mr Rudge regularly delivers lectures in Orthopaedics on courses locally and nationally, to trainees, established Consultants and General Practitioners.  He is a regular faculty member on the prestigious specialist foot and ankle course run at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore.

He is also a reviewer for 'The Foot'; the medical journal endorsed by the British Foot and Ankle Society.

Mr Rudge is a regular member of the Annual Competency assessment panel for senior trainee Orthopaedic surgeons training on the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital Training rotation.

 

Clinical Interests

Mr Rudge treats all aspects of foot and ankle problems in adults, this includes; sport injuries, arthritis, bunions, flat feet, hammer toes and tendinopathies. He has a particular interest in the treatment of heel pain (plantar fasciitis and Achilles problems) and uses minimally invasive surgical techniques when suitable.
