Mr Gooding is a Consultant Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon. His Fellowship training includes: Nottingham Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship. Sheffield Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship. The Mayo Clinic and Harvard Orthopaedics, Boston USA - as the British Shoulder and Elbow Society Travelling Fellow 2012. 

Australia - Southern Orthopaedics and The Sydney Shoulder Institute - as the Malkin Travelling Fellow 2011. His orthopaedic training was at the Nottingham University Hospitals, Derby Hospitals and Chesterfield Royal Hospital. His clinical practice includes shoulder and elbow sports injuries, soft tissue injuries and fractures, repetitive use injuries and degenerative conditions including arthritis. 

He acts an expert consultant for companies including Smith and Nephew, Arthrex, JRI and Lockdown. He is a member of the user group and development team for the JRI VAIOS shoulder replacement system and the Lockdown synthetic ligament used for clavicle and elbow stabilisation. 

His positions of responsibility include: Executive board member of Circle Nottingham NHS Treatment Centre Clinical Lead for Orthopaedics at circle Nottingham, Chair of the innovation steering committee for CircleHealth. Co-Organiser of the British Elbow and Shoulder Society Annual Congress 2014. British Elbow and Shoulder Society education committee 2012-2014. He performs over 500 operations per year and routinely monitors clinical outcomes.
