Personal Profile

Mr Bassam Alkari is a Consultant Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) and Laparoscopic Surgeon. He has been based in Aberdeen since 2008, after completing his surgical training in the North West of England.

Mr Alkari specialises in conditions affecting the liver, pancreas, and bile ducts, with a specialist interest on advanced keyhole (laparoscopic) surgery - helping patients benefit from minimally invasive techniques where possible.

Mr Alkari has a strong interest in the diagnosis and treatment of:

  • Gallstone disease
  • Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal)
  • Complex gallbladder conditions and bile duct stones
  • Laparoscopic and open surgery for abdominal wall hernias

Mr Alkari performs liver, pancreatic and gallbladder cancer surgery within the NHS. At Albyn Hospital, he is available to assess patients, provide advice, and investigate these conditions, including non-cancerous (benign) liver and pancreatic problems.

Academic and Teaching Roles

Alongside his clinical work, Mr Alkari is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Aberdeen and an assessor for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is passionate about medical education and supports both undergraduate and postgraduate training. His work includes:
