About Dr Basaam Aweid

Personal Profile

Dr Basaam Aweid is a Consultant Physician specialising in Geriatric Medicine and Stroke Medicine. He completed his medical degree alongside a Bachelor’s (BSc) degree in Neuroscience at St George’s University of London in 2006. He later completed his specialty medical training in General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics at various Northwest London hospitals, including Imperial Healthcare NHS Trust and Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.

Following a stroke fellowship at Charing Cross Hospital, he now specialises in Stroke Medicine and has served as a Consultant Physician at The Hillingdon Hospital since 2016. 

Dr Aweid currently leads the Stroke Early Supported Discharge service under the Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL). Alongside his clinical responsibilities, he served as the Medical Director at Brunel Medcial School London from 2017 to 2024. He actively coordinates collaborative projects between the three organisations he is associated with. He continues to actively work in Medcial education He is currently the Head of assessment for Hertfordshire Medical school.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr Aweid is an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians. He also teaches medical students and junior doctors.
