About Dr Babu Mukhopadhyay

Personal Profile

Dr Babu Mukhopadhyay is the longest-serving private endocrinologist in Glasgow, having provided specialist endocrine care at Ross Hall Hospital since 2011. He completed his Master’s degree in Endocrinology at King’s College London, followed by specialist training at two of the UK’s leading endocrine centres — Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital and St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London — before completing his higher training in the Glasgow teaching hospitals.

Dr Mukhopadhyay has been Clinical Lead for the General Medicine Unit at Hairmyres Hospital (until 2018) and lead for Endocrine Services in Lanarkshire, where he co-authored several regional guidelines. He currently serves as a Clinical Champion for Realistic Medicine, a key Scottish health policy that promotes shared decision making and empowers patients to participate actively in their care.

A passionate educator, Dr Mukhopadhyay is an award winning teacher and mentor. He is an MRCP PACES international chair and examiner, he sits on the Medical Education Board of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and has mentored numerous junior doctors. He is the very first recipient of the prestigious William Cullen Prize from the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and NHS Lanarkshire in 2016 in recognition of his contributions to service innovation and improved patient care.

Dr Mukhopadhyay has extensive expertise in the management of a wide range of adult endocrine disorders. He has particular clinical interests in thyroid diseases, type 2 diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), male sexual disorders, calcium metabolism and pituitary and adrenal conditions. Widely published and an experienced presenter, he is regularly presenting and chairing local, national, and international scientific meetings, and his research was awarded Best National Presentation at the Diabetes UK Annual Conference (2004).
