About Mr Ata Jaffer
Personal Profile
Mr Ata Jaffer is a fellowship-trained consultant urological surgeon specialising in robotic surgery and the treatment of urological cancers, including prostate, kidney, bladder and testicular cancer. He also has a specialist interest in the management of benign prostatic enlargement (BPH) and is one of only a small number of urologists in the North of England to perform Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP), a highly effective minimally invasive treatment for enlarged prostates.
Mr Jaffer has developed one of the region's leading HoLEP practices and is committed to advancing the technique through education and training. He recently organised and led the first HoLEP training course in the North West of England, bringing together surgeons and trainees to promote best practice and support the wider adoption of this advanced laser procedure.
Alongside his specialist practice, Mr Jaffer provides comprehensive care for a wide range of general urological conditions, including urinary tract infections (UTIs), kidney stones, blood in the urine (haematuria), blood in the semen (haematospermia), testicular pain and lumps, urinary incontinence, and erectile dysfunction.
Mr Jaffer has been a consultant urological surgeon at Stepping Hill Hospital since 2023. He completed his surgical and urological training in the Yorkshire Deanery, where he was awarded the Royal College of Surgeons' First Prize for Exemplary Surgical Skills, recognising him as the highest-performing trainee in his cohort.
Following completion of his training, Mr Jaffer was selected for the prestigious robotic urology fellowship at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust in London, home to the UK's first Vattikuti Foundation-accredited Robotic Surgery Institute. During his fellowship, he became one of the first surgeons in Europe to perform robotic prostatectomy using both the da Vinci robotic platform and the Medtronic Hugo™ RAS system.
Mr Jaffer has a strong interest in surgical innovation and has collaborated with engineering teams at the University of Leeds and King's College London to develop novel technologies for minimally invasive surgery. He further developed his expertise by completing a Mini MBA in Surgical Innovation and Leadership at King's College London.
He is actively involved in teaching and training, regularly mentoring junior surgeons and contributing to the development of modern urological practice. His combination of advanced surgical expertise, commitment to innovation, and dedication to education has established him as a recognised leader in contemporary urology.
Mr Jaffer believes in delivering technically excellent, compassionate, and patient-centred care. He takes time to ensure every patient understands their diagnosis and treatment options, enabling them to make informed decisions with confidence.
Outside of medicine, Mr Jaffer enjoys football, cycling and motorsport and is an enthusiastic Formula 1 fan.
