About Dr Asif Mahmood

Personal Profile

Mr Mahmood qualified from the University of Birmingham in 1995. He did his basic surgical training in the West Midlands following which, he was a research fellow at the University of Birmingham and University Hospital Birmingham. Mr Mahmood published his research thesis as an MD at the University of Birmingham on the effects of intravenous fluids during abdominal aortic aneurysm repair.

He was appointed as specialist registrar in general surgery in the West Midlands in 2003. In 2008, Mr Mahmood undertook specialist training in minimally invasive treatment for vascular disease (endovascular surgery) at one of the leading UK centres, the Northern Vascular Centre, Newcastle-Upon Tyne. This included training in aortic stenting, angioplasty and stenting for peripheral arterial and carotid diseases.

His research interests include critical care and endovascular surgery.
